Congratulations to Kinston Ridgeway, from Sebring High School, who represented Highlands County as our 2025 Sunshine State Scholar in Orlando this weekend. Each year, one 11th grader from each Florida county is selected by the district for their outstanding achievements in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.) Huge shoutout to our amazing Sebring High School Health Occupation Student Organizarion (HOSA) students who represented Highlands County with pride at the Florida HOSA State Leadership Conference! Out of over 30,000 HOSA members in Florida, only the top 4,500 earned the chance to compete at the state championship—and our students showed up and showed out! FIVE of our students placed in the Top 5 in the entire state! Maya VanDam – 4th place in Medical Assisting Miguel Espidol, Vivek Krishnadas, Xavier Hood, and Samantha Cruz – 4th place in HOSA Bowl Even beyond those big wins, all 14 of our state team members did an incredible job, with many placing among the Top 16 in Florida in their events. We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work, professionalism, and dedication. HOSA is a national student organization that prepares future healthcare leaders through hands-on learning, competition, and leadership opportunities. It’s a big deal—and these students have spent countless hours studying, practicing skills, and building their confidence to shine at this level.
